Instagram, TikTok or YouTube Shorts: where to start

You do not need all three on day one. How to pick the first platform based on your goals, your content and your time.

Trying to be everywhere at once is the fastest way to burn out. Pick one platform, learn it properly and expand when it feels easy.

Ask three questions

  • Where does your audience already spend time? Look at where people in your niche are posting.
  • Which format suits you? Short vertical video works on all three, but each platform has its own habits.
  • What is your goal? Discovery by strangers, a community of followers or income from brands each point to a different mix.

A rough guide

  • Instagram suits creators who want to build a community and work with brands in lifestyle, fashion, food and fitness.
  • TikTok is strong for discovery by people who do not follow you yet, and for trends.
  • YouTube Shorts is useful if you plan to build longer videos later, since the audience can move across.

Reuse, do not duplicate

Once you have one platform working, you can repost the same vertical video elsewhere without watermarks. Start with one, make it a habit and add the next after a month of steady posting.
